Midland Curling Club | Broomstraw
After a great 2009-2010 season we are gearing up
for 2010-2011 and here is what is happening ...
Facility Updates:
All of the efforts by our club members who volunteered doing rentals in 2009-2010 has
enabled the us to make a major investment for the club. When you step on the ice this
season - you will see the results of these efforts as we will be one of the first clubs in the
USA to use the Hack to Hack Solution for our curling sheets. The Hack to Hack Solution
are preprinted sheets for curling versus the current painting we do each year.
This means:
- We will not have to paint the ice each and every year which will save time and money.
- At the end of each season when the ice is removed, the sheets will be stored for the
following season, which is less cleanup than occurred in the past.
In addition, our facilities committee has been working to identify the cause(s) and fix
issues identified last year. The primary work has been done on the circulation systems,
due to concerns with Sheet 3. Based on their work, we expect that sheet 3 will be more
consistent than last year.
Midland to host U.S Mixed Nationals:
Midland will host the U.S. Mixed Nationals March 19th-26th, 2011.
We are excited to showcase our new facility to our fellow competitors from around the
USA. In addition, we are thrilled to be able to bring a national curling competition to our
community… we hope to see a Midland team represent the GLCA. Stay tuned for more
information and if you are interested in volunteering please let us know.
The event chair is John Zimmerman .
2010-11 Leagues - Registration begins September 1, 2010:
There is NO change to the League Membership fees this year. The ability to keep league
fees the same as last year is the direct result of all the hard work by club members who
volunteer time at rentals and open houses.
There are some changes to the league schedule from last year:
A new Competitive league is being formed for Thursday nights following Novice league.
The competitive league is 8 weeks long for teams that compete in bonspiels and
championship events.
A change to Middle School Leagues - the Wednesday program for youth has been
changed to a Junior Open League. This will allow those Middle School curlers who have
moved to High School to continue to play in league format. Check the website Leagues
page for more information.
The Sunday Mixed/Open League - this league has changed from Mixed to Open and the
format of this league will be determined based on the members participating.
