Two Midland Curling Club junior teams captured Great Lakes Curling Association championship crowns on Saturday. In action at the Midland Curling Center, Team Schroeder defeated Team Roden 12 to 4 and 9 to 5. Sidney Schroeder of Midland moved to skip and her sister Alexis was vice-skip. Kayla Beauregard of Lewiston and Claire Visconti from the Mayfield Curling Club played front end. The team is coached by Jeff Manson.
Meanwhile, the Wesley Pedersen rink from Midland competed in the GLCA Junior Men’s championships in South Euclid, Ohio. They defeated the Aubrey Shaner team from Mayfield 11 to 1 and 10 to 4. Supporting Pedersen were Aaron Carlson, vice-skip; B,J. Kent, second; Wesley Swartz, lead; and Brandon Wichman, fifth. The team is coached by Mike Graves.
The Great Lakes Curling Association is one of 10 US curling regions, representing 16 curling clubs in 5 states. Teams Schroeder and Pedersen both advance to the U.S. National Junior Curling Championship, January 25 to February 1 in Seattle.
